Pelee and Malden Park birding - May 5th and 6th

On Sunday May 5th, I continued birding at Pelee but it seemed to be much slower than the previous day. Still - some nice birds were seen. Some highlights were Prothonotary Warbler, Sandhill Cranes flying and calling overhead and some good looks at Blue winged Warbler.

A Dekay's Brownsnake was a nice thing to see along Anders Footpath.

I stopped at Malden Park this morning at about 6:30am before work and was amazed to see Green and Black Crowned Herons. A singing Parula and Indigo Buntings delighted. Lots of Warbling Vireos singing at Malden as usual at this time of year.

21,500 steps, 96 Species - May 4th Birding at Point Pelee

Just a short posting with a photodump of some of today's birds. I birded Point Pelee from 7am to 3pm and for the most part had a great day. I had about 96 species for the day ... but could have easily gotten over 100 had I stopped outside the park and looked at Shorebirds (I don't know if I have ever had a 100+ species ebird checklist!). I was simply too tired - and I had a birthday party to attend back in Windsor. 

Tonnes of F.O.S birds. Its a great time of year to be a birder.

What a difference a day makes! May 1st 2019 Ojibway Park Birding

Today on May 1 - I stopped by Malden Park in the morning and noted Black throated blue and Palm Warblers not far from the parking lot. I was dressed for work and only stopped for 5 minutes but I was eager to get back to Ojibway after work.

After work I was bringing my boys for floor hockey near Oakwood but noted more good birds in that section on Ojibway.  Yellow Warbler, Nashville, Wood Thrush,  Black & White Warbler and Rusty Blackbirds were seen.

Finally, after dropping my kids off after hockey, I went to Black Oak Heritage Park. I was happy to see many of the above birds but also Black throated green, Blackburnian, and one of my favorite non-warblers - Blue headed Vireo. I also heard an Ovenbird singing!

Its amazing how consistent "May 1st" is for being the opening day of the birding festival season.

It seems like Pelee would have been amazing today. Prairie Warbler and Piping Plover were two visitors to the park area. Its only going to get better from here.
